Remember Tina's post on the Team Genesis Message Board. Here's another post from her:

\"Anne, yes I have (read 10 pages of a good book today). I'm reading the book called \"SUCCESS is NOT an ACCIDENT\" It's a great book, and I've learned so much already and I've gotten 1 customer to order Shakeology and 2 coaches to go on HD AND I spoke to 2 people today about being a coach. 1 I contacted and he isn't interested but hey THATS OKAY!!! The other one, he contacted ME.. We are meeting when he get's back from vacation and he wants to watch your webinar with me.

I write down my goals for the next day, the evening before and I've been accomplishing them everyday. When I returned from the Summit I had a girl wanting me to go to her house to workout, I started that tonight and there is 3 of them. I did great! That is so NOT me to say, and I can say it becuase well I was!!! I'm proud of myself and wanted to share that with you all. The summit has really helped me step out of my shell, so watch out world!!

Oh one more thing, the guy from the plane emailed me and said that he beleives God sent me to sit by him. Isn't that wonderful? Man that was so great to hear!!!\"\n"); document.write("

\"Anne, I didn't get to talk to you after your speech (didn't see you in the rest room) inside joke.. So I have to tell you now. That was wonderful!!! You did a great job and you are so funny and so inspiring!!!! I just LOVED the brushing teeth story!!

I was up early this morning writting down my goals for the day and already crossed off 2 of them.

I took Pete's advice and I took 10 business cards with me to the airport. I sat in the middle on all 3 planes and passed out all but 3 cards!!!! The first guy I sat next too just purchased this program called P90X... ha ha have you heard of it he asked, (hee hee, lil'devil smile) I closed with getting his information. I've never done that before, I've always just given them mine and crossed fingers that they'd contact me.

I learned ALOT and am very blessed to say that I was able to go and meet so many of you wonderful people.

Milan, Traci, Joey all of you are beautiful people and thanks for making me feel like part of a family not a business!!!\"

Keysha, that's because you are working your core and your lower back wants to help out. You lower back muscles and abdominal muscles are opposing muscles like biceps and triceps or quads and hamstrings. When your abs are weak, your lower back muscles want to help out and that is bad because they are too weak to do that - explaining why men with guts have lower back pain. As for your hips, I believe it is also connective tissues that may be worked more than they have been expected to prior to doing P90X.

As far as what to do, absolutely make sure that you do not arch your lower back (keep it flat on the floor) and perhaps shorten the duration of each exercise in order to give your connective tissue time to catch up.\n"); document.write("

My opinion is that he should be contacting his own coach first of all. Joyce welcomes you to Team Beachbody!

Hi Sarah, I'm Joyce Cherrier, and I'm one of the Team Howtobefit coaches featured in Richard Dafter's \"5 Step\" email that you received. Because of the large numbers of members and the demand for coaches, we work as a team. This allows you as a community member to choose the coach that fits you best.

My passion in life is to help people reach their own personal goals and be a supportive and motivating coach that my members can depend on. I do this full-time, 8 am CT to 10 pm CT, and you can learn more about me at www.joycecherrier.com. If you want to contact me, you may use this email if you like, or add me on Yahoo Instant Message where we can talk right at the moment you need to ask questions or need help. When I send you members, this is the process that I would use:

I know that it sounds painstaking, but I would look at each profile and find a way to connect with that person. If they don't have their profile set up, suggest that you will help them with that. Check to see if they worked out this week, see if they say something about weight or nutrition or something that connects you to the member. Do it one by one by one.

Hello, I am pregnant and just bought a heart rate monitor b/c I wanted to continue to run while pregnant and have read that while pregnant, you don’t want your heart rate to go above 140. So I read the manual, set my target heart rate for 113-140 and set the alarm on. When I first started to run I noticed the heart rate monitor said my heart rate was at 107…..I ran for a few minutes and expected that rate to increase but when I looked again it was still at 107. I ran still for another few more minutes and at a faster pace and again, nothing changed. I stopped to try to figure it out and I noticed when I stopped, my heart rate shot up to 168 and as I stood there, it slowly went down. I don’t understand why it wasn’t moving while I was running and why all of a sudden when I stopped it shot up to 168. I didn’t here the alarm as I was running so I assumed I was within my target heart range. I just don’t get it. Can you help me out & explain how it should work? Thanks.\n"); document.write("

I would say that your transmitter belt was not sufficiently moist or snug when you started and was not making good contact. Once you stopped, your skin was moist enough to send a signal to the watch and 168 was your actual heart rate. Try moistening the belt thoroughly and make a good contact with your skin before you begin your workout and you will get an accurate reading throughout the workout. \n"); document.write("

Hello Richard, I was quite impressed to visit your web page for the first time today. The Polar Vantage was my first and only for many years. I am on the net today searching for my non-techno wife and Mother of our one year old son. We live in our little house in the forest near Ottawa Canada and we do not have any resource people to help with training questions. When I saw your picture with your little girl on your lap, I thought, cool, this is a man I can trust My wife in her mid 20's began a 15 week (4-5 days/week) training program that I found for her on the Running Times web page. This is her first ever program and she was completely enjoying it, squeezed in with breast feeding, diapers and the occasional shut eye. During her 9th week she got a virus which lasted for 2 weeks After 2 weeks she got back in at her scheduled 10th week but then had the virus come back after 1 1/2 weeks. So hear we are in the middle of her first program with her dream of some day completing a 10 K shattered.
My question for you is if you might know the resource people on the internet that you would point us toward for free but worthy advice in this area. I would also respect any advice that you could offer With your unfortunate chronic fatigue issues, would you sound an alarm with my wife doing this during breast-feeding, or is the beginners program of maybe only 2-4 hours of running per week not at the same risk.?
On behalf of my very grateful wife & I, Thank You, for any assistance that you might have.\n"); document.write("

The first red flag in your email was embarking on a 15 week program while getting the \"occasional shut eye.\" Sleep is essential to muscle repair and to immune system function. If your wife is not getting enough REM sleep, then adding a running program could be weakening her immune system even further.
The second red flag was that after 2 weeks, \"she got back in at her scheduled 10th week.\" That was a big mistake. After running for only about 2 months and then taking two weeks off with a virus, she should have started back at the beginning or close to it and then adjusted her schedule as her strength came back.
Running is a joyous activity and should be fun and rewarding. Being locked into a schedule when you are a beginner can be very defeating. Run for joy and let the goals take shape gradually. Look at these articles and any others that you see in the index that could lead your wife to a gradual introduction to running and its benefits.

The newest edition of my newsletter went out today - http://www.focused-on-fitness.com - and the editorial is entitled, \"Their life expectancy is now shorter than yours.\" In it, I discuss the fact that for the first time in 100 years, children may have life spans that are shorter than his parents. The culprit is lack of physical activity and poor dietary habits. Since I coach a youth running club - http://www.nextsteprunning.com - and my wife teachs, I am in touch with the goings on in most of the grades in school. One of the girls that I coached who is now in pre-season cross country training for high school, is taking two semesters of PE in summer school. Two semesters is about 6 weeks of going and \"playing stupid games\" as her brother says and that will fulfill all four years of her high school PE requirements. I am shocked to say the least.

Why are we allowing our children to become obese by letting them watch too much TV, play too many video games and be on the computer too much and feeding them food that was unheard of not too long ago. When I was growing up, there was no McDonalds or Wendy's or Burger King. On occasion, we would go to a Stewart's Root Beer drive up and sit in the car with the windows rolled most of the way down and a tray hanging onto the window with our delicious hamburgers and french fries and root beer. But it was once in a while. I wasn't in the house all the time glued to a screen, so I could eat french fries once in a while and drink a soda once in a while. The rest of the time I ate at home and ate healthy, unprocessed food and was very active outdoors all year round. And I still remember gym classes and they were filled with strenuous activities that produced a sweat - something few kids do these day and can bypass altogether if they take PE in summer school.

Please join me in raising your voice against this pandemic of childhood obesity. Be active yourselves and be role models to your kids. Don't just talk about what you did when you were kids. Guide them and join them in fun activities and sport and you and your children and your whole family will benefit. This isn't an option. Our kids face a bleak future filled with health problems unless we act now and act often.

Thanks for my Polar F55. It arrived promptly and I have been using it regularly for scheduled cardio. My question is that if I follow the heartrate guidelines I am actually exerting myself less during exercise. For example, today during the \"Short\" exercise I actuallly had to walk the last 10 minutes to keep my HR within range. During \"Normal\" workout days, I just resign myself to the fact that my HR will be out of range. What am I doing wrong? I indicated in the owner settings that I was of a \"Moderate\" fitness level and I set my exercise program to \"Improve.\" Should I adjust these in some way?
Thank you for your time and sharing your experience!\n"); document.write("

Jill, without knowing your history of working out, I would say that your perceived effort and the effective effort for you to work out in are not in sync. You may believe that to achieve your fitness goals that you have to \"feel\" a certain level of exertion - the no pain, no gain approach. But your heart is a muscle just like any muscle and it needs to adapt over time just like your biceps do or any other muscle. You wouldn't go from lifting 10 pound dumbbells to 25 pound dumbbells. You would use intermediate weights like 12's and then 15's.
I remember reading many years ago about a world class triathlete using her heart rate monitor for the first time. She was so embarrassed at how slowly she had to run to stay in her zone that she actually started running at night so that no one saw her. Within a few weeks, though, her heart adapted and she was able to train as hard as you used to on her hard days, but still had to train much slower on her recovery days than she was used to. Both her training and her racing became more effective.
My advice would be to let your heart adapt and let your heart dictate how you should train on any given day.\n"); document.write("

I have been using a HR monitor for several years and am very familiar with my hr response to exercise. Recently I have noticed that my average HR is approximately 10-15 beats above where it used to be and I believe it is in response to some medication I am taking. Am I truely burning more calories if my HR is higher due to my medication even though I do not feel like I am working any harder? \n"); document.write("
\n"); document.write("\n"); document.write("Rich 08-04-2006 09:56:25\n"); document.write("
Laura, the simple answer would have to be, yes, you are. Your basal bolic rate is the amount of calories you need just to exist. Since your heart needs calories to fuel each beat, if it is beating more, you will be burning more calories.

Personally, I would mention to your doctor that your heartrate is elevated. You always want your heartrate to be as low as possible, especially at rest, and to not tax it at any time unnecessarily. \n"); document.write("

Like Melanie at the top of the page, I have the hardest time keeping my monitor (F11) working properly during my workouts. It's becoming very frustrating that my workouts are extended by an extra 20 minutes because I can't get the monitor to register my actual rate which is much higher than the display, and shows as such when I stop and stand up straight.

The transmitter is plenty wet, and from what I can tell is in good contact with my skin. It also seems plenty tight. Is there anything else I can do to improve the performance of this equipment? It would be nice if I could go out for a skate without worrying about how to keep the monitor in good contact (which slows me down...).\n"); document.write("

If you are having difficulty with the transmitter it may be due to one of the following reasons:

Electrical Interference: Erratic readings on the receiver are usually caused by interference. If the heart rate readings appear to be abnormal, check that your Polar HRM is not within range of other strong electromagnetic signals. Common sources are televisions, computers, cars, cellphones,TV antennas, high voltage power lines (both above and below ground) and some exercise equipment. Re-locating the position of the wrist receiver can usually solve this problem.

To find a location that has no interference, remove the chest transmitter and exercise as usual. If the heart symbol continues to flash, you are picking up interference. In this case, move the wrist receiver to a location where it does not flash, then replace your chest transmitter. In most cases when the interference is cause by a piece of exercise equipment, placing the wrist receiver on the side rail, away from the front electronics display of the equipment will correct the problem.

Please note: Static electricity in clothing or a flapping shirt can cause electrical interference, so some items of clothing, i.e. man-made fibers, could be the cause. Please try wetting the t'shirt in the area where the transmitter is.

Poor Conductivity: It is important that the electrodes are wet during the heart rate measurement mode. If water does not ensure the flawless transmission, you can use water-soluble conductive cream instead. If you choose to use a conductive cream, apply it to the ribbed-area of the transmitter belt only.

Dirty Electrodes: The transmitter electrodes should be cleaned with a mild soap and water solution and thoroughly dried after each use. Try cleaning the electrodes and test the transmitter again.

Positioning: If the electrodes are clean and moist, and there is still no heart rate registering on the receiver, try to shift the transmitter around to the side of your body (try the left side first) or position it lower or higher on the chest. In some cases, you can try the transmitter on your back, however, the belt must then be worn with the Polar logo upside down and facing out. This ensures that the left electrode stays on the left side of the body and the right electrode stays on the right side of the body. Make sure to wet the electrodes every time it is moved to a new
position.

Medical Condition: There are a very small number of cases where a Polar HRM will not work due to a medical condition, for example: low voltage R-wave signals; atrial fibrillation or bundle branch blocks.

A good fat burning zone would be a 70% to 75% effort. You need to focus on staying within this zone, over time, for duration. Start with a do-able duration like 30:00 and then build up to 45:00 and then an hour. Once your body has adapted to doing cardio for this duration several times a week, you can add in some cardio sessions at a higher heart rate.

I am a 45 year old male runner. Yesterday I ran 8 miles at 56 minutes (even pace) with a heart rate that averaged 173 for the last thirty minutes or so. I would describe it as a medium hard effort. My question is at 220- minus my age it appears I am running very close to max heart rate for thirty plus minutes. Does this make sense or is it possible my max heart rate is significantly higher which appears to contradict the formula? Thanks\n"); document.write("

My training partner is John Bednarski and he ran cross country against and finished with Steve Prefontaine (see the Pre book on page 17). He is 57 and I hang with him on his easy days. He will run in the 170's at the end of his long runs and he, too, is running 7:00 pace or faster. Maximum heart rate is very individual and cannot be determined by a simple formula. It is also the basis of all heart rate training. Sally Edwards has an excellent article on the subject - http://www.howtobefit.com/determine-maximum-heart-rate.htm and I would use her methods to determine your max heart rate and then adjust your training heart rate percentages accordingly.\n"); document.write("

Wearing a sweatsuit does not help you lose weight. It only helps you lose water weight which you then have to replenish. When you do wear a sweatsuit and sweat profusely, unless you are taking in adequate fluids, you will become dehydrated and your body's ability to do a workout will be diminished, thus lessening your chances of losing weight\n"); document.write("

Probably 95% of the time, the explanation is that your transmitter belt is not snug enough. Over time, with perspiration and post workout washing, the strap will need to be adjusted slightly.
